June 27, 2016 (Gardena, CA) – Memorial Hospital of Gardena, a facility of Avanti Hospitals, collected and donated food in support of the Fifth Annual Feed SoCal hunger initiative, which is a statewide drive to end food insecurity.

In an effort to end hunger, the Feed SoCal Hunger Initiative gives the community an opportunity to participate by donating non-perishable food items.  Vons, Albertsons, ABC7, Pavilions, Subaru, ESPN LA 710, Mathis Brothers, Ontario Auto Center and Southern California regional food banks have partnered up for this initiative.  In LA County, one out of seven people are without access to affordable, nutritious food.

“Food insecurity is prevalent in the county and members of our community experience this on a daily basis,” says Kathy Wojno, Administrator of Memorial Hospital of Gardena.  “Our participation reflects our organization’s pride and commitment to improving the lives of those vulnerable in our community.”  Staff at Memorial Hospital of Gardena rallied together to collect food in support of this cause.  All food collected for the initiative will be shared with 625 partner agencies who feed the hungry.
